| - Judging from one lunch experience, I have to give this place 5 stars. First off, it definitely had a "Postino" vibe...from the outside patio dining to the uni-sex bathrooms with stocked, stamped toilet paper.
The hosts were friendly when I entered the restaurant. That was a good start. Nothing worse than a snotty host who ignores you until you ask for service.
Our server was really sweet and attentive. He won me over right from the start when he complimented my sleeping baby. He was a tall, thin guy with some tattoos, most notably one on his neck that looked like bones. He was very patient and had a sense of humor...something you need to have when waiting on a 10-top of ladies at lunch.
The menu looked incredibly appetizing. A variety of bar snacks, apps, salads and sandwiches and unique sides like fried okra and chilled bean salad.
I was going to have the country veggie chopped salad, but then I spied the Porkwich Sandwich and had to have it. This is what was on it: Pulled pork, Tenderbelly braised ham & smoked bacon layered with gold sauce & crunchy coleslaw on a buttermilk bun. How delish is that?! You can add any choice of side, and after inquiring about Jo's Church Potatoes, I had to have those to accompany my indulgent sandwich. They are basically like "cheesy potato casserole." Creamy and rich and filling.
While the other gals who ordered the porkwich used a fork and knife to eat their sandwich, I said "What the hell" and picked it up with my hands and sloppily ate it. Yes, it was messy, but the flavors all came together in each bite and I was in pig out heaven. After half the sandwich was gone, I decided to be a bit more lady-like and ate it with a fork. Not as tasty that way...you can't get all the flavors together in one bite.
We were celebrating my birthday, so I got a cute little ice cream sandwich as dessert. It was two soft red velvet cookies sandwiched between some great french vanilla ice cream. I'm assuming this was a dessert you could get next door at Churn too.
I'm looking forward to going back again soon and trying more on the menu and hoping my opinion of the place stays at 5 stars.
