I've secretly wanted to go to Telus Spark Adults night since Wendy and Reg started talking about it last summer. Anytime I asked someone to go, they either A: thought it was too EXPENSIVE B: had something better to do because SCIENCE IS LAME C: thought I was asking them out on a date and making things UNNECESSARILY AWKWARD
But finally I was able to get someone (who almost brought her LAB COAT *frowns) to come and 10 year old Angelo, who woke up EXTRA early on Saturdays to catch Beakman's World and Bill Nye, was elated to go.
Now I'll start with a few nitpicky things. I read the reviews and expected parking and entrance fees, so I didn't bother me from the beginning. However this place didn't really scream "Adults night". The DJ looked super bored as he played random music from top 40's, house, etc. The bar had expensive drinks. Understandably, we couldn't have the drinks near the exhibit. Finally, wow, talk about this place turning into DATE CENTRAL. It was flogged with grabby couples. Me and my companion remarked on their LACK OF INTEREST TOWARDS SCIENCE and scoffed as we played...err...engaged in our scientific experiments.
But wow the new Science center is HUGE. It seems they could fill this place with more exhibits. So far I enjoyed most of what was shown. I had to read every FACT posted and play...err...experiment with every exhibit. It seems most of the fun is on the second floor. I loved their animation and sound stations. I believe I impressed someone with my eloquent breakdance animations and Reggie Watts-esque looped beats .I also liked how engaging their sections on human mind were. There was a section referencing how Andy Warhol kept his old colognes and we argued about some of the smells and what it reminded us off. There was also a cool photobooth that gives you certain poses/emotions to take. Some of them were simple but witty enough to get a chuckle out of you.
Not sure if I'll frequent adults night every month, but I'll keep a close eye on other events
