What a hidden gem! I had no idea this place existed until I was looking for parking before dining at one of the restaurants on Ellsworth. I had to come back to check it out and so I did.
It's rather small and the first thing I noticed was it doesn't have the typical weird fishy "Asian store" smell. You know what I'm talking about if you've been to those Asian stores in the strip. The store is smaller, but it does not feel cluttered or cramped. The selection is much more limited, but also more varied at the same time. Does that even make sense? This store is varied in the sense that it carries a variety of sushi grade fish and Japanese-specific ingredients that you might not be able to find in other general Asian grocery stores that carry a small selection of ingredients for all Asian cuisines. I'm not that well-versed in Japanese cuisine so I can't speak on the ability to get all your ingredients here when cooking Japanese, but from what I could tell, it looks like you can find a lot of the staples. One thing I really liked was their selection of bento boxes and prepared foods. It appears that they have a kitchen in the back and they prepare the meals there, which is nice to know that the prepared items are fresh and not shipped from an outside source.
Overall, I really liked this store and wish it was a bit closer to me. I thought the owners were very nice and energetic, which made it a very nice shopping experience for me. One thing to note is that they have a $10 card minimum. If I'm feeling like making a homemade Japanese meal, this will be my go-to for sure!
