I went to this salon to get an old sew-in taken out. I had a mostly full head minus the front section which was braided in tree braids.
I walked-in was greeted and asked how I could be helped. I said I wanted my weave removed. I was asked to fill out a form and then told the price would be $20 and was made to pay upfront. It was 20 bucks so I didn't sweat it, although normally pay after a service is completed but whatever.
This was my first time here and my first impression was it's a typical braiding shop. This is not a salon.
So a braider comes over and walks me to a vacant chair and so we start
Let me pause and give a few details - I'm 100% natural and have been for over 10 years. My hair is long. It's shoulder length and some places longer when it is in a curly state. I am very particular about my hair.
As she examines my sew-in to determine where to start I say to her, as she is picking up the scissors "the front section is tree braids." She moans, and asks "is your hair long?". I say "yes, and I wear it out naturally. No perm and no more see-ins for a while." She touches the front part and decided to start in the back. So I start on the tree braids. The hair is super tangled and honestly I had had the braids/sew-in way too long. It's takes me a while to get 1 tree braid out and I had 4 of them. She has taken about 1/2 of the sew-in out by now and she's moving very quickly. We both continue to work and she progresses to takin out my braids (the braids under the sew-in) and I progress to the 2nd tree braid. It's taking me quite some time to take them out without further tangling or having to cut my hair.
So we continue. She starts on one of the tree braids as she has finished with the back of my hair. She is using a rat tail comb and I am using my fingers. She is pulling and yanking and the braid she is working on is on my temple and it's a very thin piece of hair for the size of the tree braid and it hurts. I even say at one point "ouch" and I attempt to touch what she is working on cause I can't see it cause she doesn't have me facing the mirror. She says "I got it." She pulls out the scissors and I say, "No no no no don't cut it! It's in the front." She blows off and puts the scissors down and picks the rat tale up and continues working on this one braid that apparently is taking too long for her patience. I'm jus about done with the 2nd braid and am excited cause I'm almost free of this weave and without warning she yanks really hard and snaps my hair off! I couldn't believe it. I yell " Owe!" The shop gets quite for a few and folks peer around their stations to see what happened. She responds " I no cut." I say " no you didn't but you broke of my hair." I ask her to stop and I take picture of what she's done. She walks away to get a broom. I snap like 2 photos. I was so upset. I stay in the chair and take my time removing the final tree braid which takes some time. She says something in French to a fellow braider and walks back over and ask if I need help. I say no and continue to take out my last braid.
She never apologized, she acted like what happened was nothing. After I specifically explain to her how I wear my hair, for her to be so careless and nonchalant about it really pissed me off.
I will never go back here not recommend them to anyone, not even for something as simple as taking weave out.
