  • Becoming slowly disenchanted. They started out well a couple years ago--organized, caring and efficient. Reasonable in their billing practices and dealings with insurance. Yet over the years I've suffered more and more mishaps---wrong prep proscribed for a serious procedure, setting appointments without telling me, long hold times with the scheduling department. Today I received a message from Mayo but the caller didn't leave a full phone number to return the call. When I called the main line I got the run around by being transferred only to be placed on hold for over 20 minutes. I finally gave up. I think they deal with too much volume, especially when the winter visitors return. Their customer base is older, retired individuals who can go to appointments whenever. Me, not so much as I have to work for a living and try not to be a professional patient. Time will tell, but my luck with the docs no matter where I go seems to be running out. No more Mayo for me. I have a serious health condition and had poor test results in September. Finally saw doc yesterday. Got a stern lecture from him about the seriousness of my condition and waiting so long to see him. I took the first appointment offered to me to see him yesterday about six weeks after my test results. Anyhow, doc told me he wanted me back in for tests next week. I was just informed that Tests are scheduled for 2nd week in. December, again first appointments available I could have the day after Thanksgiving but I'd have to prep for the tests onThanksgiving day--this is endoscopy and colonoscopy. Of course if I did the tests in December then I'd have to wait another 4-6 weeks to see the doc to discuss the results and possible treatments. Meanwhile my medical condition gets worse and I am functioning less and less everyday. If I wait for Mayo, I'll be dead by the time they get around to treating me. There seems to be no method to prioritizing appointments at Mayo or maybe my issues just don't seem too serious to them. Now I have to start this process over with another doctor. I get tired of using my energy trying to get timely and effective medical care without going bankrupt.
