  • First, let me say that my review is primarily focused on one particular aspect of DCM. When I moved to Henderson I was faced with finding a new doctor. When I first met Dr. Meli, it was right after his wife had passed away of cancer. That is a hell that I would not wish on my worst enemy...to experience that type of loss of a life mate. Over the course of the first 1.5 years or so, I was able to get an appointment when I needed one, he has always been attentive. Now in terms of wait time...I concur with the reviews I've read. Getting the appointment via DCM is one thing....getting called to the back, getting to see the doctor, and getting out can be a wait. Over the last 6-8 months, I could see and hear a LOT changing. There has been quite a bit of turnover there. Medical assistants come and go (mostly go) and one of the major physicians left. Several of the times I had appointments, it was very clear (seeing and hearing) that things were in a state of unrest. Don't let the number of chairs in the waiting room fool you. My most recent issue (9/21/2016 through 10/3/2016) was with Kimbery one of the medical assistants for Dr. Meli, and Dr. Meli himself. Recognizing I had meds coming near refills, I had my pharmacy fax the office (a standard procedure). 9/21 to 9/28 they sent 3 faxes and I called the office, got the voicemail to leave my information as well. September 28th evening when I went to my pharmacy, neither the pharmacy nor I had received any response. Friday, 9/30/2016--I physically drove to the office and requested to know what I needed to do in order to get the medication refills handled. I will add here that the front end folks as you first come to the outer desk area are great. They are friendly and they really want to help. She took my name, medication names, etc. and assured me Kimberly was back there and it would be taken care of and I could go ahead and leave, all was well, etc. Long review...but.... Friday night, 9/30/2016-drove to pharmacy to pick up prescriptions because I assumed they would be there since I was told face to face it would be handled. Nothing. I called the doctor's answering service and inquired re: what need to happen given I was now out of my medications, no responses, etc.etc. and now with the doctor's office closed I was looking at three more days to wait. She said that she was contacting him. She came back on the line and said he wasn't answering his phone but that she would text him. She asked for the same information....my name, the medications, etc. Saturday mid-afternoon, 10/1/2016--I drove BACK to the pharmacy as I had made the connection with the answering service the night before and she had taken all the information, etc. You guessed it....the pharmacy had received no contact. Saturday mid-afternoon, 10/1/2016--Called answering service again. She looked through the notes and said that yes, she saw that I had called the day before and she saw the notes. She said she would call him and she put me on hold. She came back on the line and conveyed that she had made contact with him and that his response to me was that he was not at work/not working, he was not going to handle any prescription requests/issues and that I could call the office on Monday. It's not like I was calling on a Saturday afternoon with no notice and interrupting to demand something. 9/21/2016.......through 10/1/2016......three faxes from the pharmacy, two phone calls from me to the office with voicemails.....three trips to my pharmacy, and literally driving out to his office to make face to face contact trying to find out what was wrong, being told Kimberly was back there and that she would take care of it and now I am told that the doctor was told to communicate with me that he's not at work and would not handle any prescription issues. 10/3/2106--Monday I drove out to his office *again* THANK YOU, Cheryl (Cheri).....his other medical assistant, for listening to my plight, recognizing the gravity of the issue, and acting on the spot to rectify the situation. SHE gets a big kudos. The rest of the staff back there to include Dr. Meli.....not so much. I know with all the healthcare changes, too few doctors for too many patients, etc. that it is hard. But c'mon now. I am not looking forward to starting that search once again for another primary care.
