  • Now this is a story all about how my membership got flipped turned upside down .... and I'd like to take a minute just sit right there; I'll tell you how I became embarrassed and tossed without care . So I decided to join IA because it's closer to my house and convenient for morning workouts. I have an LVAC membership as well. Now IA is a small gym and is too packed in the later hrs of the day 4-9pm making it hard to get a decent workout in. In the mornings when they first open at 7am is perfect because there are only a few people. Now when I came to join (I was referred) the older woman that runs the gym tried to dissuade me from joining since I don't compete. Odd . Guess I didn't fit the customer profile they wanted *rolls eyes*. I told her that was fine I just needed a morning workout gym and this gym looks like It'll push me to reach the next level. They take one months membership (which was $10 more than the referred person told me theirs was) and last months gym fee. I paid and left. I worked out perfectly for one month. The following month I was on vacation for 10 days and a few days after coming home got food poisoning from eating out . This was a particularly bad case that my body couldn't seem to shake. I missed work for a week - couldn't hold down food or anything . The last thing on my mind was going to the gym. Now finally when I get better I go to IA with my credit card to set up automatic payment. When I enter I get a rude welcoming from the older lady telling me I can't workout there. I inquire as to why and she tells me my membership has been cancelled due to nonpayment . I explain my situation and without any consideration she says I should've paid . Mind you if this was that serious why wasn't I called or emailed ? Then over the phone payment would've been given? They take all your contact information && don't even try contacting you before canceling you ! So there is still over a week left for the last months payment they had received when I signed up and they didn't let me workout !! She said I would have to pay a late fee, first and last months gym fee - which happened to go up again $10 . She basically took this mishap as an excuse to get rid of me or pull more money. There is no customer service here or even human compassion. I like LVAC better anyway and they have a great juice bar .
