| - I ate here for free for a CE dinner, so my review is slightly biased since it's already getting at least 3 stars for the pure fact that it was free. I loves me some free food.
The first course I had the Red pepper soup, with truffle oil, and mushroom powder. I've been obsessed with soup lately and it was really good, had a lovely smoothness to it. It's heavy, but it's winter (well the closest thing to winter) here so it was appropriate for the season. I had the hangar steak and gruyere mash with a red wine sauce. I think the first two bites the steak and sauce to be a bit salty. Prob 80 percent of people would think it was fine, I'm very sensitive to salt. I was surprised though that no one asked me how I wanted my steak cooked, typically a hangar steak is rare, medium rare. but still I'd like a choice it's America after all! The mash had a great taste, but I'd enjoy it more if it was a bit more dense, It sorta just laid there in the plate and was only a touch more thick than baby food. I was a little disappointed with the presentation of the plate. It sorta just laid there, no rhyme or reason and as I looked around at other plates there wasn't much consistency with plating. It's a cool looking restaurant and with the price point I'd expect a little care to the plating. For desert I had the tower of chocolate mousse which was very good. I love chocolate mousse and the berries on top were ripe and sweet.
The joint has really cool interiors, great lighting ( i love good lighting), neato bathroom sink, and great service.
I think cause it was free I give it four stars, but if I would of paid I'd give it 3 stars. I'd probably be satisfied and considered it a good meal but not dying to come back. yay for free dinners .
