| - I lived in Las Vegas from 2005 through 2014 and Cobra Kai Jiu Jitsu has been and will continue to be a huge part of my life. I recently moved to San Diego but I wanted to add this review, to let anyone in Las Vegas looking for a Jiu Jitsu school to join, that Sim Go's Cobra Kai is definitely one you need to consider.
What can I say that has not already been said? Sim Go is a great instructor and one of the most technical Jiu Jitsu and Submission Grapplers in the country. He breaks down his techniques and adds the little details that can be the difference in finishing a sweep, pass, or submission. I have travelled a lot, have attended seminars, and visited and trained at other schools, and Sim is easily on par, if not better, than many of the top BJJ players in the world.
The gym is truly welcoming to everyone: men, women, teens, and kids, and there are a variety of classes with students at different skill levels, beginner to advanced, that no matter what level you are at, you will fit in. Jiu Jitsu practitioners visiting from out of town, and new people just stopping by to check it out are always welcome to train. There are no big meatheads with huge egos, and the monsters that do train here are very respectful. If you take a free trial class, you will have a very hard time not wanting to sign up. Also, prices are very reasonable. I paid $100 per month (EFT) for unlimited training. They offer discount for kids, military and law enforcement as well. They also offer boxing, kickboxing, as well as several Strength & Conditioning circuits, which are available to everyone as well.
Sam, Sim's dad, runs the front office and is one the friendliest people you will meet. He will help you get signed up, can get you any gear you need, and if you are visiting from out of town, will even help you get a ride back to your hotel. The gym also has visitor gi's which are washed regularly, so if you're a new guy looking to join, or a business traveller who forgot to pack their gi, Sam will likely have a clean one you can use.
As for the gym environment, like has been said in numerous prior reviews (and which Terrance stated can become easily overused) it truly is a family friendly place. Mats are cleaned everyday, and they have two showers and one restroom. I've moved to SoCal three and a half months ago, but was back in town last week and I stopped by to train. It was like seeing my family at the holidays, and it was great to see everyone again and train with them, as always.
So, I am giving Sim Go and Cobra Kai Jiu Jitsu FIVE stars. I may be biased as I've been a part of the CKJJ family for the past nine and a half years, but when you continue to enjoy your training and it becomes such an important part of your life, they must be doing something right. Now go to CKJJ and give it a try! You won't regret it!
