| - I can't say no to a huge bowl of BUN BO HUE, and the rendition here was very satisfying. This is such a great stop if you're hanging out at the Strip on the weekend, and a popular one--we snagged the last empty table when we swung by at 1pm on a Sunday. At $11, it was pretty pricey for noodle soup, especially as the thin slices of beef and pork sausage were pretty sparse. The noodles were too soft as well, but the broth was flavorful and satisfying, and I don't regret it one bit. Accompanying garnishes of basil, jalapeƱos, lime wedges, and mung bean sprouts were plentiful.
The FRESH SHRIMP ROLLS were a nice size and freshly made, but mostly packed with rice noodles, with a piece of lettuce, some sprouts, and 3 small shrimp, but the accompanying peanut sauce was super addicting. I kept it around throughout my entire meal to dip everything in.
My husband's PORK BANH MI was small but flavorful with nicely charred meat. I prefer Lucy's for a banh mi at the Strip, but this satisfied my husband's craving just fine, though it was small enough that he needed to commandeer a healthy portion of my noodles, even after downing 1.5 shrimp rolls.
It was my friend's first pho experience, and she went crazy for the PHO with WELL DONE BRISKET, pronouncing the broth absolutely delicious. For that reason alone, I'd call this experience a huge success.
It's hard for me to compare Pho Van with other nearby pho joints as this is my first Pittsburgh Bun Bo Hue, but I'd return in a heartbeat. As all other Asian food around here goes, it's pretty decent for the 'Burgh.
