| - The problem is that there are so many drivers - some are good and some are bad. Although my experience wasn't like any of the horror stories I've read, and my driver was a nice enough guy, he really didn't seem to know to get around very well, and he didn't have a GPS.
I was in a hurry to get from Yonge and York Mills to Richmond and Berkeley - when I checked google maps, transit was estimated to take 38 minutes, and driving estimated to take 17. I normally take transit, but since google maps' transit estimates are generally low and I was in a hurry, I splurged on a taxi. I initially suggested he take 401 to DVP, but he balked, so I thought he's the driver; he must know better; the DVP can be like a parking lot, so I deferred. He then proceeded south on Yonge St. I kept thinking he'd go east to Mount Pleasant or even the Bayview extension at some point, but no.. I suggested it a few times as we plodded along the stop/start traffic and lights of Yonge, but he didn't take my advice until I insisted. Once we got off Yonge St., we sailed along - then at one point he pulled into a bike lane to turn right and cut off a cyclist - he had signaled, but hadn't properly shoulder checked.
It took over 40 minutes to get to my destination and cost $33.75. I normally tip 20%, but only gave him $35 and ended up late.
I took transit back - 40 minutes total.
