  • To be honest, 1 star probably isn't a fair assessment but as I spent 12 hours today throwing up from food poisoning, I can't bring myself to give them more stars. My friend and I were visiting Calgary and heard great things about the Fairmont (it is a beautiful, historic hotel). We headed over after the hockey game for a New Years Eve drink (it was also my birthday). We walked in and there was one open table- the server was great and personable and brought over a chair for us. Realizing I hadn't had dinner, I ended up ordering chicken fingers and fries (it was my birthday and I felt like I could revert to childhood again because it was my day, right??). I love(d) truffle so when I saw "truffle aioli" on the menu I asked if I could get it with my fries (this is now my #1 regret). I had 1 drink with dinner and ended the night with a champion toast. There were really cool drink options and a live singer made it feel like an old school lounge. (And no, I did not drink too much and this was not alcohol poisoning). Within 2 hours of eating (and back in my hotel room), I told my friend my stomach felt weird. Well, I ended up throwing up (and other things) for 12 hours straight, couldn't keep any liquids down, and became so dehydrated that I probably should have gone to the ER for fluids (but I'm not Canadian so I don't have insurance here). I missed my flight home, and have to stay another night in Calgary (and miss work tomorrow). I called the hotel at 3:30 in the morning after a particularly awful forceful vomiting fit. I was told a manager would call me when they got in today and I received no call... so, I'm bitter, pissed off, and quite honestly feel like I was hit by a truck. After doing my research it appears aioli is very susceptible to food poisoning due to the eggs- however, I wouldn't expect a place like the Fairmont to mishandle their food. I get it, it happens. But it's the lack of response afterwards that is particularly irritating. Thanks for the birthday gift, Fairmont! Happy 2018 everyone- it can only go up from here!
