| - I've never had a 'gourmet' donut before today. I was in the PATH and saw a window display of amazing donuts that I'd never seen before, my previous donut experience has been Tim Hortons and Krispy Kreme so this was pretty amazing! I immediately went row by row, deciding which ones I needed to try since I am so rarely downtown - I needed to make this count.
Then I turned the corner and saw the prices. Yowza! $30 for a dozen. There went that idea! I decided on 3, red velvet cake donut, maple bacon, and chocolate peanut butter.
Red Velvet: I don't think the frosting is cream cheese...and if it is, it's very faint. Red velvet needs cream cheese frosting, no matter what the format. That's just the way it is! Donut was a little dry but still yummy. Nothing special. I don't think it really tasted any different than a regular donut?
Maple Bacon: Yeast donut, it was nice and fresh. The maple frosting tasted like real maple sugar, but I suppose the only other maple donut I've had is from Tim Horton's! The bacon pieces were a little stringy and fatty, I am not a huge fan of bacon on things but was willing to try this time. I wish it was cooked well done and crumbly. Could be an isolated incident, but...
Chocolate Peanut Butter: Yeast donut, again - soft and fresh. There was a decent amount of the peanut butter frosting which was yummy, but the chocolate had a funny taste (again, I only can compare to Tim's..)
I would definitely try the other flavours, like key lime! I'm also now seeking out other donut shops... :) uh oh!
