| - New Management...Not So Much
I really loved the complex when I moved in, but there was a management change and things have consistently gone downhill.
The apartments, for what you get compared to the price are VERY reasonable. I don't really have many issues with the noise, as I am on an upper floor. I have a neighbor that could stand to turn his music down a bit... especially early on a Sunday morning, but other than that, I mostly only hear people going up and down the stairs.
I agree with another reviewer about the multiple entries by maintenance. I, too, experienced walking in on a maintenance guy after a long day of work with no notice, and I do think their access is excessive.
My biggest issue, however, is the decline in amenities but no decline in the rent. I loved the trash valet service and was surprised that it was no longer offered. Being on the far end of the property, I'm not too happy about putting stinky trash in my car to take it to the trash compactor, yet residents still have the trash collection fee on their monthly rent statements.
Sadly, the complex does not work with you if you have special circumstances that require you to end your lease (I didn't realize that I had locked myself in for 15 months instead of 12, but stayed the entire year), so I was essentially forced to stay there to avoid ridiculous penalties.
They WANT to be a big time complex and have rules of big complexes. 60 Day move out notice? In GASTONIA?! I don't think so! I find it hard to believe that they are so overrun with residents that they need that much notice, and charging two months rent to break a lease is just ridiculous.
Compared to other complexes in the area, it is a bit nicer aesthetically which is why they can get away with the higher rent, but they should make more effort to treat residents better considering the amount they pay.
It's clear why RKW sold the place. Icon doesn't remotely compare to their other property (Tailrace in Mt. Holly). If you're going to pay that much money, look elsewhere. Don't believe the hype.
