| - We went to Duke of Westminster for a team lunch. We made a reservation for 11 people, but unfortunately the did not have large tables. What they did was keep an area of the lounge clear and give all the tables there to our group and seat us at small tables of 2. Not the ideal solution but it did keep our group together.
After browsing the menu, I ordered the soup and salad. My coworker, sitting at the same table decided to try the burger and fries.
My soup was like a vegetable puree. It was well seasoned and tasted pretty good. The salad was the "eden" salad they served at the restaurant, which was a kale base salad with beets, tangerine orange and cashews. The salad was fairly large and overall my meal was yummy.
Unfortunately, some awful service and a below average burger are dragging down my score for the Duke. While conversing with my coworker, he mentioned that he did not enjoy his burger and would have preferred a burger from McDonalds instead.
Our service was really bad. The waiter struggled with basic tasks and managed to spill water on one of my coworkers. We also had some trouble getting what we wanted when a coworker asked for a slice of lemon on their water.
Chatting with my other coworkers, I learned that some (about half) liked their food and some of them thought we should have picked a different place.
Overall, a decent pub downtown good for grabbing finger foods. Nothing exceptional, but I wouldn't mind it. Our service at this meal was awful, otherwise I think Duke of Wellington probably deserves three stars.
