  • I had my "koi pond" built by Tranquility Ponds 11 months ago. I was very happy with this pond at first, but then 2 months into the new pond, the water started getting cloudy. I called the store and was told that I could put a filter add on on the pond. This was $350.00. I was not happy to hear this since the pond was supposed to have a gravel filter on the bottom of the pond that would keep the water clear forever.. I didn't have much choice so had them put in the new filter with a light bulb in it that was supposed to definitely clear everything up. It did work for the first month then back to the charcoal colored murky water. I was turning the little cleaning crank on the filter once a week, just as I was supposed to and brown water came out but it seems that the filter is done helping out and it is just a gimmick. I have since then done my own research and found out that these little add on filters are basically a waste of money and considering it is only some foam inside, a crank and a light bulb, and about the size of a waste paper basket, I guess I should have seen that coming. I also researched the concept of gravel on the bottom of the pond with a pipe under the gravel sucking water, and it is considered a completely bad idea by professionals such as Erik Johnson, Koi Vet with a PHD, and tons of articles on the subject and the opinion is unanimous that pond bottoms with rocks on the bottom are going to turn into a stinky mess that can't ever be cleaned. I also learned that Koi need a larger pond than mine, which is only 9 inches deep, and basically it seems that these people don't have any idea what they are doing. Koi grow to several feel long and my pond is the size of a standard bathtub and they sold me 6 koi at $50 each. I could go on and on. I tried to get a free cleaning from the owner "Holly" and she told me that I need to buy blue dye and dye my water blue. I pointed out that none of the pictures in her portfolio have blue water in them and we had words and she hung up on me. I have since seen other reviews of this company such as Angies List and it seems that just as with this review site they only have either perfect ratings or absolutely horrible ratings. It is pretty obvious what is going on. I wish I had done more homework before hiring them. Do not use this company. Their salesman was very convincing and nice as could be, but after that, the relationship has been a nightmare.
