| - Foody Mart was a huge step for markham in the grocery category. I think asians rejoiced when it first opened because all of the groceries that you couldn't find in walmart, no frills, loblaws etc.. were here! Since its opening however, other groceries have begun to offer a more diverse range of groceries. Moreover, another asian grocery (tnt) has opened nearby!
No doubt prices are good here. From groceries to fresh food & bubble teas and even the sushi trays, everything is quite cheap in price. If you come an hour or two before closing, everything is even cheaper over in the prepared food section. There is usually an abundance of marked down sushi and dimsum at this time.
The meat and seafood sections smell really...well meaty and fishy. Its quite strong and you can occasionally see people walking through with their faces in their sleeve. Oddly enough, I have never had a problem in terms of freshness. This is likely because product is ALWAYS moving through the store at such a high rate. Also, the meat here, like everything else in this store, tends to be cheaper than other grocery stores. Its all wins really!
The cooked food selection is overall pretty good. Being critical, I would say the dim sum is way too oily and lacks quality. The other trays of food though that you can take out (left side in the prepared food section) are decent in both selection amd quality.
Now the store is satisfactory when it comes to cleanliness around the shopping area. Washrooms are absolutely filthy though. I think the eating area could be better maintained as well.
Usually, I would prefer to do my shopping at tnt. Its cleaner and the setting is more pleasant. But prices there are a little bit higher...I guess thats the tradeoff for a cleaner and more well organized store. 3 stars because groceries are cheap and so is everything else here. Missing two stars because its not very clean and the atmosphere isnt as nice.
