Katies ice cream rocks. Stopped by on a warm February afternoon and I have to say that This is some of the best ice cream in BE Ohio. The setup is simple, a small free standing building that used to be the DQ many years ago before it moved across the street. A bit funky, but just fine for a place to get ice cream.
The menu board has a long list of flavors, since it is February, a number of them are not available. I did get to try the Caramel Cashew and the Belgium Dark Chocolate; both were excellent. The ice cream is rich and thick with almost no added air so the ice cream started hard, but softened nicely as it warmed. The Carmel Cashew starts with a nice smooth vanilla base and then adds lots of caramel and a fistful of cashews; not too sweet, with the nuts giving some crunch, this is really good. The Belgium dark chocolate is about as chocolaty as can be made, just the right amount of sweet and a nice contrasting touch of bitterness. Dark, smooth and rich this may be the best dark chocolate ice cream I have had.
This may be the best home made ice cream in the area, really well balanced and well made. I can only imagine how good this will be on a really hot day during the summer.
