| - The store is one of the very few scrapbooking stores left in the valley. The owner, Pamela, used to shop for Recollections (former store located @ corner of 75th Ave / Bell owned by Michaels crafts that sold scrapbooking, craft, rubber stamp, and the like in the mid-2000s) with the current owner of Scraps of Love store located in Peoria (which used to be called Crop Girls). The two women and another co-employee of Recollections got together to start their own scrapbooking store after Recollections closed, and founded Crop Girls. Pamela eventually left to found The Paper College, in addition to having had booth spaces @ Sweet Salvage and two Brass Armadillo stores.
I called the store and Pamela sweetly answered. I inquired whether she carried a particular line of paper doll rubber stamps & metal cutting dies called "Character Constructions" by Catherine Moore.. She said she didn't because of not enough customer interest to stock them, but she did say she was familiar with the line and even ordered a couple in the past from a different source for her own personal use. She understood my desire to purchase it. Since she didn't carry the line, she offered to make calls and to check on her phone (her computer crashed) where to find and voila! found an online store that sells a decent stock of this line(!) She was also familiar with the online store and even remarked that she may order from them, too ;) We also carried on a conversation associated with rubber stamping & dies and how the smaller lines are often hard to find compared to the bigger brand names that are found pretty much everywhere. She understood my plight when it comes to searching and searching for a particular item. She's very familiar with the crafting industry so is very qualified to own this type of store. She treats each customer with vitality and listens.
Just want to give kudos to great customer service that gives renewed hope to small business owners that they do know the products they stock and direct their current or potential customers to a satisfactory level when it comes to needing assistance or guidance! That's why small stores do compared to big box stores where you'd have to know on your own.
Maybe someday when I am in the area, I may stop by since I visited her booths and purchased vintage-themed rubber stamps. The store sells lots of various vintage & shabby chic paper & arts/craft stock that are usually not easily found elsewhere. The owner even sells her own line of acrylic stamps in southwestern theme and hold classes with guest teachers, which is typical of a scrapbooking store.
Thanks again and keep up the great work :)
Chain of event that followed:
UPDATE: BTW, when I told Pamela that I originally ordered this paper doll set directly from the artist (Catherine Moore) previously and that the artist canceled my order when I wanted a proof of a receipt enclosed inside a shipping package- meaning the artist was "odd", Pamela was empathetic and apologetic about the way I was misunderstood treated poorly by the artist; yet, she and I expressed in conclusion that at least we found a store that sells what I'd been looking for and without dealing with the artist who apparently didn't have decent business skills! I have altered the images to my template taste and the artist will not get credit- after all, it's now my image and she will not longer gain recognition from me.
UPDATE 2: I also updated Pamela about the incident with the artist's 2 hard-luck wholesalers (Tall Mouse/Cre8tive Artz/Kim Donahue and Stamp Diva/Susan Wilken(with whom Pamela will not do business with due to their rudely brash reply to our e-mails)) who also had very poor customer service skills- the former who stuffed my stamps order inside a shipping box to save money and the latter who shipped me the dies order that had Catherine's sloppy writings all over the pristine packages that I paid full price for, which caused me to have PayPal to credit me for a defective packaging! In concluding, please do avoid doing business dealings with Catherine Moore, Tall Mouse/Cre8tive Artz, and Stamp Diva online. Just thanks, everyone, for your comfort and guidance :)
