I'm not really a coffee drinker, but "getting coffee" is something to do when meeting up with friends, so I oblige. Starbucks is boring, so we decided to try Grouchy John's because a friend is addicted to this place and highly recommended it.
I originally asked for a Strawberry/Banana Smoothie, but the guy at the register suggested I try the Suicide Smoothie instead. I went with his recommendation. The drink was good, but nothing special. I'd rather have Jamba Juice to be honest. Maybe I messed up by ordering a smoothie at a coffee shop, so I'll venture into the coffee items next time I'm here.
Rather than the drinks, the highlight was the atmosphere. The place is fairly quiet, but not stale like a library. It does have an artsy feel. Not in a skinny jeans and PBR hipster type of way though. Nerdy and comfy would be the best way to describe it. This gives it the character that's lacking at the chain coffee shops. Best of all, their tip jar has a sense of humor.
