I have been a patient of Dr. Moss for two years. I have United Healthcare and each time used them to cover the cost. I recently received a bill from Dr. Moss' office with a 90 dollar balance. I called the offices and asked them to resubmit the claim to the insurance. They said they would take care of it and did not understand why it was not covered. I told the office I had a doctor appointment that week and asked what needed to be done. They said nothing they will resubmit the bill.
Two days later I took off work an hour and half early to go to the appointment. When I got there the receptionist wanted to charge me the 90 dollars. I told her that they were resubmitting the bill that is should of been paid under the insurance. I explained what happened. The receptionist called the office manager and he told her I could not be seen unless I paid the balance.
I explained to the receptionist that I took off work. The insurance has never been a problem before I have always paid the bills can an exception please be considered.
She said she would ask Dr. Moss, she came back and said Dr. Moss would not see me without paying my bill which was less than 90 days old. I pleaded that I could give them my credit card in two more days when I got paid. I reiterated that's why I called their office two days ago to confirm that the appointment would still be held and they would resubmit the balance to the insurance company.
I finally left in tears. I asked the receptionist if I could speak to Dr Moss and she told me no she was too busy. I asked if she could have the office manager who she just spoke to call me. She said Dr Moss will have him call me tomorrow.
An hour after my appointment the office manager called and explained that it is their policy to refuse service if a bill was not paid. I explained the details again and could not understand why they could not work something out. The bill was being resubmitted. I am a paying patient no other time have I had any outstanding bills. I even offered that I would also pay the 90 in two days with a credit card they could hold now. Again his only reply was well I'm sorry that is our policy.
There are plenty of other doctors out there who care about their patients to pay someone who clearly doesn't care to try and see the circumstances. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone ever. Also the staff denied receiving my call I made two days previous to my appointment to request the insurance claim be resubmitted.
