I was so excited to see another great addition to the East Village, watching this little community develop over the last few years has been so exciting. I love the decor in Mari and was really excited to try the roll cakes! My friend suggested we arrive right at 10 AM when they open as last time she went they were already sold out of things and we didn't want to be disappointed. We weren't the only ones waiting for Mari to open when we got there so I was feeling good about our decision to arrive early - alas - not all the pastries were out right at 10! There was still a selection of choux and a few other pastries but no roll cake. We asked when we ordered if it would be available soon and they said maybe 11:30, so we ordered choux, another pastry and sat to enjoy our treats. They have a nice seating area and the choux and pastry were so good! Delicious, I could probably eat a dozen of them and I definitely want to try all the flavours, I tried Matcha, Coffee and Vanilla all delicious! The roll cakes still weren't there so we went for a walk then came back, luckily the lemon tarts were out but no roll cake, I took home a lemon tart and pastrami sandwiches in pretzel buns for hubs (also so good! The meat they use is awesome and local and the pretzel bread was perfectly chewy and fresh). I will have to return for the roll cakes! Hopefully next time!
