  • We more or less inherited Today's Pool Service from the previous owner when we bought our house. Things started off well and the owner even saved me a pile of money when a filter broke (thus the bonus star or this would be a 1 star review). But that was early days. It's been a steady down hill slide ever since. First was the tech with stress/depression. Seriously how do you get stressed and depressed cleaning pools? He forgot to add chlorine and failed to lock the gate twice (found a nice neighbor kid in the back yard but fortunately not floating face down in the pool!!). I asked the owner if they had anyone else they could send. Well they did replace him but they didn't bother to TELL the guy he was replaced. As a result, I had to deal with the depressed pool guy and give him the bad news when he turned up. Not cool. But as my personal mentor Taylor Swift always says "Shake it off". So I did. Mr. Depresso was replaced with a friendly up beat olympic athlete. He must have been a track star because he could dash into the yard, slip a bit of paper under the skimmer lid and dash out in the blink of an eye. Who can properly clean a pool in under 3 min? Amazing. When the solar heaters stopped working I asked the pool guy but he had no clue. A few hundred dollars later the solar company found my track star hadn't back washed the filter in months so there was no water flow to the solar heaters up on the roof. Grrr... "shake it off...". Eventually the track star was out with an injury (seriously) so he was replaced with a "breaking bad" style chemist. He was actually studying chemistry at University but I wonder if he wasn't performing some kind of experiment on our pool. He loved to add chemicals to it. After each of his visits the pool would be cloudy for a day or two. But it always seemed to recover. Then the track star returned (I think - I never saw him) but it was time for us to get out of town and beat the heat. That's when things truly started breaking bad for us. The pool clouded up and the float valve started to leak. Part of the problem was a dead rabbit in the pool but that was only discovered later. The Today's Tech, being an olympic athlete, was presumably able to leap over the leak throw in some "Breaking Bad" chemicals, work (?) around the rabbit (?) and dash out all in record time. I guess calling us to let us know about the leak was a bit too much to fit into a busy day. Eventually a neighbor who was looking in on the place called to let me know we had an issue what with the water being all cloudy and a big puddle forming. I called Today's Pools and the owner suggested I call his plumber. That plumber was busy for 2 weeks so he suggested having the neighbor top off the pool every day with a garden hose, hang around for 1/2 hours in the 110 degree heat. Well my neighbor's a great guy but that seemed a bit too much of an ask. So I got my own plumber to come out that same day. He fixed the leak and mentioned he had found a dead bunny in the pool. Hard to see through all the cloudy water. It wasn't really his job but I asked him if he could "dispose of the body" and he agreed. Hopefully the NSA wasn't monitoring that call! Sadly the pool kept getting more and more cloudy. Finally I could no longer "shake it off". Sorry Taylor. Don't be a hater but I had to change pool companies. The new guy increased the filtering schedule. Was it the removal of the bunny? The increased filtering? The "Breaking Bad" chemicals finally kicking in weeks later? No idea but by the weekend the pool was nice and clean and so far I'm happy with the new pool company. I had asked Today's Pools for a final bill and confirmed that everything was paid in full. Got it in writing even. But then a month later I got another bill. For Pool Chemicals. $11. Were they still sneaking into my yard adding chemicals after I fired them? Hopefully not! Fortunately my credit card on file with these guys has expired or I'm sure it would have been charged to my card. I called the owner but he was too busy so he asked me to call the office. I did. And I emailed. And I called again. No luck clearing up my account. The next month another bill. I can only echo the other reviewer - don't get on the auto-payment plan with these guys! I would have just left this whole sad ordeal as a story I told friends over a beer if Today's Pools hadn't continued to hound me for $11. But they won't let up so I feel compelled to vent a bit and post my story. I know a bad Yelp review can be harmful to a business but maybe they will read this story, take an honest look at the declining level of service they are providing and turn things around. A bad review may end up being the most helpful thing for them in the long run. Or not. Either way, use these guys if you like but I'm done with them. And I'm not paying that $11 charge - just call it a funeral expense for the dead bunny.
