  • This place used to be one of the best overall deals in town. It was off the strip but right across from the Palms and those amazing clubs they have over there. The rooms were very inexpensive compared to other hotels and the staff was really nice. It's gone pretty far down hill from that point in the last couple of years. We had friends staying there and ever though we usually stay at the Palms we decided we'd join them at the Rio this trip. WOW, big mistake. We went to check in at 3pm and were told that they were sold out and the room we booked wasn't available so we could wait until 6pm or accept another room without a view in the older tower. We thought... ok this can't be that bad and took it. Keep in mind we booked our rooms a month prior. When we got to our room we noticed the smell of something chemical, almost like paint.. It was strange. Couldn't figure out what it was but decided to forget it by grabbing a beer from the mini bar. Well, upon picking up the beer we noticed it wasn't at all cold. The mini bar power light was on and the lights inside worked but it wasn't actually cold. Since we already picked up the beer the little magnetic thing charged us. We called the front desk about it and were told we needed to come down to speak with someone. Really? I proceeded to go downstairs and was almost killed by a lady in a motorized scooter. That was a freak thing and in the end we laughed about it. Then I got out of the elevator on the lobby level and almost got hit by 2 more of these seniors in scooters while walking to the front desk. It turns out they rent those scooters there and everyone seems to have one. It was like walking around on a live go-cart track. In the end we re-booked at the Palms and got the manager to refund us everything. She was very apologetic and even expressed frustration about the scooters. You could tell she didn't like those things either. Even after all that I would have given them a 3 stars because management really did try and make it right and in the end I got a refund. The reason I'm dropping this to a 2 star is because after I left the lobby I went to the valet to get my car and no joke, it took them 35 minutes to get our car ! I went back to the booth 2 times asking why it was taking so long and was told each time that there were reward club members automatically ahead of us because that's a perk of being park of their players club thing. So while I was waiting every person that came after me for the next 25 minutes were apparently part of the reward club and they didn't even try to get my car. Only after I started yelling at the guy and getting very loud did they magically have the time to get my car. So this was a fail fail fail and then fail again. I can't see myself going back anytime soon.
