| - My boyfriend's family was in town for Father's Day weekend, so I met up with them for a celebratory lunch. As others have mentioned, the restaurant is within the very fancy Renaissance Hotel, but fancy dress isn't required.
We had made reservations, but there was no need. The restaurant was quite empty around 1 pm on Father's Day, with only one or two other parties. We experienced the wonderful service other Yelpers described. Our waiter kept our water full, offered great suggestions, graciously answered questions (or went to the chef for an answer), and was very knowledgeable about the sources of the food,
We had a coupon for a free appetizer from the hotel, we we tried the kielbasa board. The presentation was beautiful. I loved trying the different types of kielbasa with all the different sauces. For my meal, I ordered The Pittsburgh Reuben ("The Big Ugly") with a salad (choice of salad or fries). The salad was fresh and satisfying, the sandwich (if you can even call it that) even more so. It's huge--two slices of bread piled with sauerkraut, Russian dressing, and shaved pastrami topped with kielbasa, a potato pierogi, and cheese. More of a knife-and-fork job than a sandwich. I ordered it because I wanted to try everything--it was a good choice. I wasn't able to finish half the plate, so I packed the rest up in a to-go box and it made a great dinner.
The components of the sandwich were great. My favorite part was the bread, which soaked up the juices from the toppings but was still still buttery and crisp on the outsides. However, the meatiness of the sandwich got a little overwhelming after a bit--I wish I'd saved my salad to accompany the sandwich.
The other members of the group greatly enjoyed their meals as well. Mussels and frites, the croque minargie... all were cleared and declared delicious. It was a great dining experience overall, and a nice way to celebrate.
