  • How I do have a love hate relationship with this place. One of the stars of butler street nightlife, IPH draws on the 'cool cats' trying to catch the hipsters neighborhood vibe and who decisively pay too much money to stand squished together in a cleaned up version of a carson street bar. However, for the money you pay in the 10 minute increments it takes to get a drink, IPH tries it's hardest to make up for the fault of its patrons. First, it has a fantastic rotating draft selection of craft beers and the gimmick of a blow-torch smoked cocktail. At least you're getting a show for your wait. Second, they try a lot with their menu. Starters, flat breads, burghers and entrees and a brunch menu gives the patrons a lot of pick from. Now the price point is typical pittsburghese, meaning that it's slightly better than average tasting, $$ priced for a 2x meal. I like that. You definitely need to practice constraint on your own and take home half of it. Surprisingly, the food is better after taking it come and eat it cold. Unfortunately, there are many subtle flavors that are lost when the food is hot [such as the mashed potatoes that have been cooked in bacon fat]. Of course you could always settle for one of their delicious and underrated salads, which are definitely my favorite. Third, they hit the nail on the head with their specialty foods. This is where IPH truly shines and the culinary specialty comes out. I am sad to have missed out on the pumpkin stuffed with ground lamb, it looked delicious!!! Also, don't dare miss out on their bloody mary's, they are pretty much spectacular. [I think they are tinged with fresh orange juice]. Best word of advice is to come here during non-peak hours that don't fall on a Friday or Saturday night, as to avoid all of the pretentious people as to enjoy a simple meal and stick with the beers or come for brunch.
