For 5 years, Sushi Mon and sister restaurant Goyemon have been our go-to establishments for AYCE sushi, but unfortunately the quality continues to decline at both locations. About 1.5 yrs ago, they changed the unagi to a lesser quality and smaller portion. It's been downhill since then. At Sushi Mon recently, we had to send back the snow crab because it was starting to spoil and was inedible. They are serving salmon nigiri that includes sinews from the worst parts of the fish. Gone is the beautiful marbling of fat that should be seen with good quality salmon nigiri. The California role? Though this role blasphemes the very idea of traditional sushi, the one they served us should be a source of major embarrassment to any sushi chef. The uni thankfully was fresh and delicious. I know the quality of AYCE sushi can never match a la carte, but in this case, the AYCE sushi used to be much better. The price hasn't gone down, but now the quality has dipped so far that we've decided to start searching for a new favorite sushi spot, sorry to say.
