You know your standard Chinese menu?... now imagine if someone actually tried to make those dishes REALLY WELL, throw in solid sushi and decent cocktails and BOOM you have Plum. The atmosphere is next level...but all this isn't cheap, your going to pay for it.
Originally, the space opened as Chen's, roughly 14 years ago, the only contemporary fine dinning Asian menu in the city.
Pittsburgh wasn't ready.
Chen's closed after a couple years.
It reopened as Plum (about 9 yrs ago) with bigger portions and more traditional dishes to satisfy the pale Yinz'er palate.
.......I FEEL [deep breath] that Pittsburgh, and especially the east end, is ready for a more "Chen like" menu. Even if Plum did more contemporary specials, or redid the menu a bit, which i don't think it has done in a looooong time, I'd be for it.
Chen's was early by 10 yrs...come back Asian fine dinning...we're ready now.
