While I typically search whatever city I am in far and wide for the cupcake shops, I just happened to bump into D'lish when I was the neighbourhood. The man who runs the place talked me for a while and then talked me into a dulce de leche cupcake. We had both spent considerable time in Buenos Aires and I couldn't resist getting a taste of my beloved city.
The cupcake tasted like a cupcake. I could tell it was comprised of a stocky cake base with an amazing icing topping, but unfortunately nothing about it said dulce de leche. I didn't regret splurging $3.15 on such an indulgence, but I think I'd go for the red velvet, which the very friendly manager revealed was the top seller. Besides, it's my favourite.
While my heart still belongs to Life is Sweet at the end of Queen East, I wouldn't mind popping by D'lish if I need a fix. The location is pretty much second to none as far as demographics go, but I think the cupcakes are a tad expensive and the flavour combinations aren't that creative. I would, however, like to acknowledge that D'lish doesn't use lard in its icing and for that I am a big fan.
They give out free cupcakes on birthdays, so make sure you swing by on yours!
