  • 2015 was the 7th year running the half and I'm still a fan. Being able to run on the Strip at night goes a long way for me. Although taking baby steps, the organization has improved slightly every year since Rock 'n' Roll took over. There was better organization at the expo and with the bag drop organization. It's still not perfect, but won't deter me from running again. I arrived at the expo at opening on Saturday and spent no longer than 10 minutes there taking the same exit route that I took last year. They had plenty of volunteers assisting and guiding. Thank you to all those volunteers that help the race run more smoothly. We parked at in the MGM parking deck for the race and that was definitely a mistake. We ran into about a 20-25 minutes of traffic before the race. For locals and those driving, take the recommended routes and parking on the west side of Las Vegas Boulevard, you will find better traffic flow there. The corrals are still an issue and I don't think Rock'n' Roll will learn until someone is seriously hurt. I was in corral 7 and I actually saw three dudes with 43-something bibs (supposed to be in corral 43)? Really? Entry to the corrals was being policed on the east side but not on the west side where they can climb through the fence. I also had to maneuver around two walkers walking abreast well into the second mile which meant they sneaked into one of the first three corrals!? The bottleneck two people can cause when masses of people are attempting to run around them is quite dangerous for everyone. As far as the course, the ninth mile could use more lighting through the East side of downtown. It was actually raining when I ran this mile and a little extra light to see foot placement I'm sure would have put everyone more at ease. The last 5K was brutal this year with 15-20 mph winds from the south. And for those that don't like the long walk after the finish, that can be attributed to Rock 'n' Roll having to learn the hard way after 2011 when people were literally getting trampled in the finish area at Mandalay Bay resulting in the finish line further north thereafter. All in all, another great experience giving runners an opportunity to run on the Strip at night, which I will continue to take advantage.
