| - I have 3 pre-dispositions regarding the Penn & Teller Show that I need to disclose:
a) BULLSH*T
I have every episode of Penn & Teller's Showtime TV show, "Bullsh*t" on DVD, with each set signed by each of them, so yes, I'm a fan.
b) "PENN SAYS"
I am a regular listener to Penn Jillette's podcast, "Penn Says" which focuses not on comedy but on his real day-to-day thoughts around skepticism, American freedoms, politics, and other core beliefs of his. (Most of which reflect many of my core beliefs as well)
c) REPEAT OFFENDER
I've seen this show over 10 times. I either have a very big appreciation for their talents or I'm really dense and can't seem to get what the show's about.
Now with that out of the way, 5-stars.
I can truly say that I would recommend this show to virtually anyone visiting Las Vegas that I know. And I also consider it a "MUST SEE" every time I'm in town because they do in fact change the show.. a bit here, a bit there. Having seen the show so many times, I can verify that this is so. They do repeat certain performances however I'd say a good 20% of the show is different every time.
THE EVER-CHANGING SHOW
In tonight's performance, Penn & Teller did the following bits:
1) Teller, the Glasses, and the Concrete Block
2) HOWTO: The Cups & Balls Trick... the Penn & Teller Way
3) Palm, Misdirection, Steal, Simulation
4) Teller's Pet Balloon
5) Penn: "All Psychics are Phony: A Cold & Hot Reading"
6) A Romantic Interlufe of Fire Eating
7) Newspaper's Current Events
8) HOWTO: Sawing a Woman in Half... the Penn & Teller Way
9) Teller's Goldfish Bowl
10) Penn's Camera... with Cows
11) Fun with Nail Guns
12) The American Flag/Bill of Rights bit
13) Shadows of a Rose
14) Finale: "The Magic Bullet"
...you may notice some familiar bits, but for me personally over 50% of the show was different from the last time I saw it.
TRULY GREAT TALENT
I am an out-of-practice magician (I still maintain my membership with the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood) and I can tell you that Teller is an absolutely tremendous slight-of-hand talent. He is the "Iceman" of magic - rarely have I caught a mistake. Penn on the other hand, is a huge personality with a commanding voice, a great professional juggler, and a wonderful & creative intellectual power.
...It's my appreciation for their individual expertise that makes their show UBER-special to me - they define the term "VETERAN PERFORMERS", however I believe even for those who don't recognize their natural born talent, they will still have a great time... assuming they have an operational brain.
SOME BRAINCELLS REQUIRED
And so, folks - I need to qualify that this is 'intelligent' entertainment... stuff that makes you think & emote. Yes, you will actually have to have a functioning brain to fully enjoy this show because being thoughtfully & emotionally invested in many elements of the show helps make the performance personal.
... So if you're a meathead or you're drunk off your ass and just want the "flashy-flashy" spoon fed to you, ("Gimme tricks, more tricks, faster, FASTER!") go see the 'Amazing Johnathan' which is fast paced riotous fun.. but simply a different type of 'magic-infused' entertainment.
CONCLUSION
Not much else to say. 6 years at the Rio can't be wrong.
5-stars.
p.s. How is it that Yelpers voted that the "best nights" are Thurs or Fri?!? The show is DARK on those days - i.e. not performing! Ever! [shakes his head]

EXPERT'S HINT:
When you go pick up your tickets, you DO NOT have to show up 1 hour early like they say - even on busy nights during conventions on Saturday however it will affect how close you sit.
...In some situations, it may be worth your while (if you have 2-4 people) to get there a little early and show your friend Andrew Jackson's ID to the ticket counter. Ask if they have VIP Couch Seating with your own private table.
