| - I am obsessed with cupcakes. The way to my heart is cupcakes. But The Cupcake Shoppe has consistently delivered absolutely terrible cupcakes over the years, which led me to petition my previous boss, when I worked in the area, to let me handle the birthday cake purchasing so that we could stop going here - it was his go-to because of convenience. He relented but sadly, I got these cupcakes for my birthday because he always forgot. :P
What makes me so ragey? The fact that the cupcakes here are subpar and that the service is POOR. What business does anyone have serving crappy cupcakes and having a bad attitude?! I was never greeted in this store unless I was in office wear. In the two visits I had here on my own time when I was in the neighbourhood, I was always ignored or coldly treated. I can forgive poor products sometimes, if service is good and I can tell the management is trying/working out growing pains. I cannot forgive consistently piss-poor attitude with terrible products.
What makes their cupcakes so terrible? Like Prairie Girl, they are LAZY. They pretty much slap different frostings on the same two or three cake bases and call it different flavours. That is pure garbage. It shows zero effort. Like I said in my review of PG, if all you do is cupcakes, you should be developing different cake bases for every flavour and not "share" cake bases for more than 2 flavours or 3 if there are different fillings. Product design is lazy.
The product itself is terrible. The cupcakes are always stale and dry. Perhaps they need to be stored better or made better. But they are always, always dry, and to top it all off, all the flavours taste pretty much the same. In a blind taste test, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart if your life depended on it because they all taste like Too Much Sugar. And nothing else. The only way to tell these cupcakes apart is from the overdose of food colouring they put into the frosting.
Just, no. Do not even bother. It's not worth the calories at all. Go to Metro down the street on the other side of Yonge - the standard cupcakes that only come in vanilla or chocolate taste a hundred times better than these.
