The Yellow Jersey is definitely the most "eclectic" bike shop in Madison. You sort of have to play Russian Roulette with each visit. It's a small shop so if you are looking for a new bike keep in mind that their selection is very limited compared to others.
The Good: Parts! Lots of them and pretty cheap to boot! Services are generally less expensive than other shops too. SOME pretty nice and knowledgeable employees working there but...
The Bad: The owner is a bit, how shall we say, "unpredictable"? Helpful at times and at other times not so much. Example: My girlfriend was looking at a bike there and the owner was the one that helped us. He was nice until I asked him if there was a free tune-up included with the purchase. He got a little perturbed with me and said that a free tuneup wasn't included and that "new bikes don't need to be tuned up for years". This is not so. New bikes go through a break-in period where cables stretch and such and every shop that I know offers at least one for free AND encourage you to do so within the first six months of ownership.
So, what you have here is decent, little bike shop that reminds you of an old-time hardware store with the gruffy owner. Capiche?
