| - I guess I was expecting better, but was sadly disappointed.
First of all, the parking suks. Walking into Barrio Cafe, I was afraid I would get stolen and never see the light of day again. Luckily, I made it to the restaurant.
The acoustics inside are terrible. We had a really loud party sitting next to us and I could barely hear the person sitting next to me.
The bread and olive dish they serve complimentary was OK. Nothing great, nothing to write home about. The bread was actually a little hard.
Our server was very friendly, but again hard to hear. We asked him what he recommend and based on his recommendations, we ordered the famous, table-side prepared guacamole, enchiladas de hongos (mushroom enchiladas) and torta de chochinta pibil (pulled pork torta).
The guacamole was fantastic! Very cool to watch it being prepared right in front of you too.
Our entrees arrived and they were both very bland. I've had more flavorful mushroom enchiladas at Z'Tejas. We debated on even taking our leftovers home since we didn't even care for them all that much.
Well, we decided to order dessert since we hardly ate our entrees. We went with the churros and ice cream. They were very good. Drizzled with carmel....delish!
So basically, the guacamole was good and the dessert was good. Skip the entree. Walk with a friend to your car so you don't get snatched. And be prepared to say, "what?" all night to your dining partner.
