I'd been looking forward to this event as soon as I saw it on the events page. I had the biggest grin on my face when I found out I got a pair tickets. And then I was jumping up and down with joy when we got to our seats -- we were 5-6 rows from the front AND we got a ton of leg room!! Thanks Yelp Phoenix!
This was my first time at the Herberger Theatre. This theatre is surrounded by a ton of different bars and restaurants so if you plan on taking a date here, you've got a ton of dinner options! My +1 and I went to the Arrogant Butcher prior. As for the theatre, I didn't really explore the theatre because I was so eager to sit down and watch the play! Although I can't speak too much about the outside of the theatre, I can certainly speak about the inside. It's a pretty small and intimate setting. There are lots of lovely lights (I've got a thing for lights) and nice, simple decor. The theatre itself is very clean and the red, velvet seats are veryyy comfortable (no one wants a sore butt after they leave a play!)
The play was AMAZING and was a great adaptation of the book. I was totally absorbed into it from start to finish - I didn't even get up during intermission! The cast was phenomenal. Shoutout to Steve Hendrickson who played Otto and Michael Santo who played Mr. Dussel!
I had a wonderful night at the theatre and I would definitely recommend checking it out. I'm definitely going to try and catch another show here before I leave Phoenix! Side note: Sweeney Todd will be showing in August and I'm totally bummed I won't be here to see it. FYI if you haven't seen Mr. Todd yet, I HIGHLY recommend it!
Finally, I'd like to end on a very important note: Let us never forget the Holocaust and let us continue to honor the six million victims, the survivors, and all the heroes who risked their lives to save whomever they could. Lookin' at you Miep and Mr. Kraler!
