| - My friends are into Bikram Yoga and got me excited to try it out. I learned from our local papers that the old studio has recently been replaced by another Bikram franchise and got renovated. The reception hall is refreshing with its huge wall fountain, and the color scheme of lavender and white on the hallway lined with white leather benches was cozy and elegant. The dressing room is well designed and spacious with lockers. The studio is big enough to accomodate around 20 adults to my estimate. The hospitality of the staff felt very positive and sincere that even the owner & head instructor was extremely approachable.
Having seen the documentary about Bikram Yoga and its founder Bikram Choudhury, I was expecting and anxious for a yoga bootcamp. And so it was and true to Bikram's letter (i,e. without the swimming trunks and Rolex)! Tried out their 30-day unlimited pass for $40 and it was a wow-watta-workout. Managed to come twice only with the busy summer with the family but I look forward to going back despite some amount of reluctance. Its Hatha yoga, basically, done in a hot room (heated is an understatement, oh yes). It's slow and deliberate yet high intensity.
I felt very comfortable with their classes as the instructors knew how to push the students yet not stretch them out to their breaking point. They were nice and conscientious; did not compare students nor was there any air of competition; very generous with instructions, guidelines, and motivations during each class; mature and professional. In one of the classes I attended to, I appreciate the initiative from Ms. Kristina to turn on the fan for a few seconds to cool down the room a bit for the students. Indeed, It was so good. Like any novice, I couldn't help but feel like a brisket in a boiler especially at the later part of the session.
The heat was extreme for me and I had to pace myself very carefully. Since its my first encounter with this devilish workout I was taking all sorts of mini breaks to keep up and keep dry. I enjoyed it and the fact that I was practically detoxifying and burning fat kept me going...image of my next downsized jeans in my mind... ;D
I had some difficulty cooling down, though, that felt like heatstroke over my head. But its me and my body. You know your capacity. I'm fine and I look forward to going back. It helped improve my badminton the following week, if that counts for anything.
They now have online class booking which is great. They have one morning session at 9:30 and three in the afternoon from 4:30. Regular 10 class pass is at $170.
