  • This is my first half marathon that I have run, but I have run other races (much smaller in scale and in length). I went into this with not many expectations from an event standpoint, I just wanted to finish the race. We arrived just after 6am and parked on the North Shore and took a quick walk over downtown. The streets were very well marked, so it was easy to find the correct corral we were looking for. Security was easy, yet thorough and before we knew it we were herded into our corral. They had a DJ making announcements and music playing while we waited. After a short wait, the race was on. Starting at Liberty Avenue and through the Strip District we went. From there you heading through the North Side for a jaunt. From the North Side and over the West End bridge, to the South Side. From the South Side and across the Birmingham Bridge, to the Blvd of the Allies until the finish in dahntahn. That is an abridged version. I found this course to have more hills than other races. Most of the hills are gradual, but they can be challenging. What impressed me the most about the event were all the friendly people that cheer for you along the streets in each community. Many are there to support friends and family, others are their showing their community pride. There are a ton of water/gatorade stations along the course. Each station has wonderful and friendly volunteers working their tail off to keep you hydrated. Their support and hard work is most appreciated! Can't say enough about them. Security looked pretty tight toward the end of the race. Streets were lined with fences and their are security check-points that allow you into the spectator area. This was a most enjoyable run for sure. Whether or not you are from Pittsburgh or not, I think this run gives you a great view of the city. I would certainly try this again next year...maybe the full....maybe not.
