When I first moved to Cleveland last February I was looking for a place to continue to foster and rescue dogs like I was doing in Chicago. I researched several places on line and was sold on Secondhand Mutts for three main reasons.
1. It's a smaller, lesser known shelter that really needed volunteers.
2. It's a cage free facility.
3. They rescue dogs from high kill shelters.
Secondhand Mutts is a small facility partially supported by The Mutt Hutt. Both businesses are owned by Becca Riker who is devoted to saving dogs and finding them a furever Home. (She is so amazing and one of the most kindhearted people I know in Cleveland) The Mutt Hutt is a full-service dog grooming, daycare and boarding business which utilizes extra space for Secondhand Mutts rescue dogs. Because space is limited, SHM relies a lot on fosters and volunteers. So far I have fostered three dogs for SHM, two which were successfully adopted and the third I am currently fostering.
I will continue to foster and volunteer for SHM because its such an pawsome pet rescue/adoption shelter and nothing makes me happier then saving pups lives! If you're looking to volunteer and give back to your community, I would definitely recommend volunteering for SHM! So happy I found this place :)
