I brought my son (barley 2 at the time) in on a Saturday afternoon after I noticed he kept tugging on his ear and was running a slight fever. What should have been a quick ER trip turned into a nightmare! My son was checked in and brought in the back room and we sat back there for 30 mins before the actually DR came in.. They wouldn't allow his father to come back with us. Instead of trying to figure out what was wrong with him (which was obvious it was an ear infection) they immediately accused me of child abuse due to a TINY bruise on his head. The DR asked me how he got it and I couldn't explain it since it happened when he was at his fathers house. I told her it happened over 2 weeks ago and that he fell. If she wanted the full story to go ask his dad (who she still wouldn't let come in the back). Then she decided to tell me that I let a TV fall on him.. Right ?! Totally, insane! I went on to tell her if a TV fell on his head he most likely wouldn't be alive being that he's 2 and they weigh a lot and that if I'm bringing him to the ER for an ear infection why wouldn't I bring him in for that? Meanwhile my son is in so much pain from his ear infection she comes in and tells me to make him stop crying or else she's gonna sedate him to calm him down. I was furious but felt so helpless because I've never been in a situation like this. So 4 or 5 hours go by and finally they let his dad back and I tell him what's going on.. My son is still wearing diapers and by now it's soaking wet and they won't let us leave to get his diaper bag. So now he's still in pain and sitting in a wet diaper. The DR tells us we can't leave till he gets a full body scan and check up to make sure he's not abused. I'm literally crying my eyes out seeing my boy sitting there in so much pain while they do nothing to help him. If anything what they did to him was child abuse! He couldn't eat or drink anything, they made him seat in a wet diaper and gave him no meds for his ear infection THEN held him down for 45 mins while they x-rayed him. After all this the DR never came back and a nurse came in and said he was perfectly healthy! I honestly think that DR discriminated against me due to the fact she saw I had tattoos/piercings with colorful hair. I never got any kind of apology for how she treated us. This hospital is horrible. Be careful bringing your toddler boy in with any type of bruise or else you could be accused of child abuse!
