As soon as I arrived at the sleep center I got a bad feeling about the appointment. I was told to sign in and wait to be called--I had to remind them that as a new patient I had some paper work to fill out. While I was standing there one of the receptionists was LOUDLY complaining about how sick she was--ick! A few minutes after I sat down I was told by another staff member that they had never received my insurance authorization. I asked her to please call the company and gave her the authorization number. A few minutes later she came back to tell me that the insurance company had never heard of me. Um? I had to call my insurance company and hand her my phone. Of course the person I talked to knew I existed and had my referral number--so who the heck did she call? It certainly wasn't my insurance company. I was 30 minutes past my appointment time when I got back to see the doctor. My referral had been for Dr. Molin. I was told I would see Dr. Molin when I made the appointment, but a PA Olsen(?) showed up instead. He immediately started talking about his allergies and how bad he felt. He looked bad. He sounded bad. In fact, he acted so out of it that I'm not sure why he was at work at all. He quickly dismissed my concerns and ordered a basic sleep study, despite my neurologist's recommendations. Great. Whatever. The final straw, however, was when I was told that after the sleep study I would have to schedule another appointment to "discuss the results." I asked if there was some way to notify me if the results came back normal. I didn't want to come back if the news was no news. The clinic is on the opposite side of town from me and I certainly didn't want to have to deal with any of them again if I didn't have to. Nope. The receptionist told me I would have to make an appointment if I wanted the results. You know why? Because they can't bill you for a phone call or for sending the report to your pcm. Thanks, but no thanks.
