| - Anyone who has any interest in sports has been to one of "those" arenas. Places where you're packed like sardines, places with two concession stands for twenty thousand people, places where the men's room is full of ladies since their own facilities are lacking. This is not one of those places.
Jobing.com Arena is gorgeous. It is new, modern, wheelchair-accessible, and designed with the fan in mind. There really isn't a bad seat in the house, even the cheap nosebleed seats provide you with a good view. Restrooms are amply-sized, always 'just around the corner,' and are always in good shape during events, even sold-out ones. Concession stands are plentiful with a good variety of options if you've got any money left over after purchasing your tickets.
Parking is abundant but can be confusing. There are a variety of different lots available for parking, but only some are option for certain events. I have no idea why this is. The parking people I asked have no idea why this is. The police officer I asked had no idea why this is. It isn't unusual to see a teenager decked out in a reflective suit waving a little flag telling you to park in the dirt when there are 7,000 open spots in a paved lot half the distance closer. But hey, it is (usually) free! So you can take that $15 you just saved and buy a cheesy pretzel!
So what's not to like? What keeps this place from perfection? What makes this not-quite-Mecca? Location, location, location. It was very nice of the city of Glendale to have their taxpayers help foot the bill for this lovely arena, but this location is just ridiculous. It is inconvenient for 90% of Valley residents, who feel like they're driving to LA during rush hour. It took me two hours to go from Mesa to the Arena for a 6pm game recently. This is not an unusual occurrence. If you live anywhere in the East Valley, you'll spend more time on the road than at the arena watching your event! This is absurd, and an assault on the fan. Glendale is known to have regional aspirations, but geography doesn't support it. Phoenix-Tempe-Scottsdale is the geographic and economic center of the Valley whether Glendale likes it or not, and attendance figures at this arena prove that beyond the shadow of a doubt.
Having said that though, Jobing.com Arena is a joy to attend. When you are sitting in its comfortable seats watching a hockey game, you will agree.
