  • If you're feeling down, whatever you do, don't go to the Cat Cafe. If you're feeling happy, whatever you do, don't go to the Cat Cafe. This place is about as enjoyable as a root canal at the hands of a dentist that just argued with his spouse. First, as a friend with us aptly pointed out, can you call yourself a "cafe" when the coffee comes from a residential countertop Keurig machine complete with powdered milk or non dairy creamer options? No, no you can't. Do you want to make your $10 syrofoam cup of coffee inside a miniature batting cage? No, no you don't. But hold onto your plastic coffee top, it only gets stranger from there. We were told there were 14 cats, but 8 of them belong to the owner so they aren't up for adoption. Evidently, more than half the cats wandering around simply live in the high rent district known as Monroe St. Odd. Next, the silence is deafening. Why isn't there music playing? Why do staff give you a full on zombie stare when you go to pick up a cat? Why does it feel like I've invited myself over to my mother-in-laws house for dinner directly after serving her son with divorce papers? Combine a vague sense of hostility with terrible awkwardness. The energy here is so bad and so negative, we literally ran out after 10 minutes and directly to the garbage can across the street to bid our $10 K-cups goodbye. Someone get this place a real cup of coffee and a bottle of antidepressants to wash it down. Cat Cafes have been done right. The idea behind it is loving and noble. This one is like a broadway play, put on by drunken kindergartners with a chip on their shoulder, too much money and some extra furniture. Finally, Cat Cafe, take a word of advice: You can't make people sign a Waiver they are never shown. It's neither legal nor enforceable. Now go directly to the site for your local animal shelter and send them some money, for the love of God.
