| - We have often been to the Cal to eat or play but didn't stay until recently. We loved it and will definitely stay here again. Join the B Connected player's club to qualify for an immediate discount on the already reasonable room rates. Also, no resort fee! (I hate those sneaky tacked-on charges. You won't find that here.) People are friendly, including the guests. And yes, you will be surrounded by Hawaiians. If you aren't looking to hang out with hipsters and wild partiers, this is a great place to stay.
Our large double-queen room offered solid comfort with good beds, a small refrigerator, and other standard amenities. The shower didn't have much water pressure; it was enough to get clean but didn't wake you up much. Since there is a long-standing drought, I had no complaints. There is a small pool but we did not swim.
No in-room coffee. However, it was easy to go down to Lappert's on the mezzanine where a special included a free Krispy Kreme donut with the coffee. Their ice cream is fabulous.
Next door to Lappert's is Aloha Specialties (cash only). The Spam musubi is a long-time favorite; even my son who hates Spam loves this. The combination plates are huge and tasty. They also sell delicious locally-baked chocolate chip cookies with macadamia nuts, although this time we noticed there were fewer nuts. The cookies are marvelous anyway.
Every night Market Street Cafe serves a specially-priced prime rib with soup or salad, potato, veg, and a cherry sundae with real cherries. This is the famous place for late-night oxtail soup, too.
