  • Au Pied de Cochon is a restaurant founded by Chef Martin Picard back in '01, offering some new Canadian comfort fare. The menu revolves mostly around the different parts of the pig, such as the pickled tongue, boudin, tarts, pork chops, pig's head, stuffed pied de cochon with foie gras, etc. I made advanced reservations, and the hubs and I came here for a later dinner after we landed in Montreal. We started off with the Fg Poutine, which was a plate of freshly-fried fries, topped with a lovely foie gras sauce, cheese curds, and generous chunks of foie gras - this was decadent, but not too heavy, and the gravy was super delicious. For the main meals, we tried one of their specials, the Croque Monisuer with roasted pork loin and French toasts with maple syrup - we were not fans of this, as it just had too much going on; I wasn't a fan of the pork and the taste of it, as well as the oversweetness from the maple syrup-drenched toasts. We then tried the Hot Chicken - this was pretty tasty, as the chicken itself was cooked perfectly and was super juicy; the salty crispy skin exterior had tons of flavor, and I loved the thick nice au jous-type of gravy that was drenching everything - I'm a huge peas fan, so the fact that there was an overabundance of this just made my heart happy! For dessert, we tried the Milkshake with PDC Maple Toffee (one of the best milkshakes I've had, this wasn't too thick and easily drinkable - the taste was a mixture of funnel cake/creme brulee and something just magical - not overly sweet, but decadent enough), and the Maple Poudding Chomeur (love little bread pudding that had a yummy crunchy exterior, the hubs was a total fan of this!). I'd love to go back and try out their Happy Pork Chop (which they were out, sadly), as well as their Duck in a Can. Service was super friendly and attentive, as Gregoire and Louis were both fabulous. We even received multiple complimentary bread (that had a lovely crust to it - rustic and yummy, it was great with the soft butter that was served). The place is open late and it does get packed - reservations are highly recommended. +yummy complimentary crusty bread :D +Foie Gras Poutine :D +Hot Chicken :D +Milkshake with PDC Maple Toffee :D +Maple Poudding Chomeur :D +ask for Gregoire and Louis :D +friendly staff +reservations highly recommended!
