| - Interesting place. My yardsticks for country bars are the Little Red Hen in Seattle, and Gilley's before it closed, and Stoney's couldn't be more different from the 'Hen. It is a huge, cavernous place in a strip mall far from the hotels and casinos of the Strip. A friend who is a local took us there on a Sunday night, which is Ladies Night and drinks were $1, so I had a lot of them.
I have never seen people line dance really fast to techno like they did every few songs at Stoney's, which was confusing. Am I at a rave? Or a country bar? Should I have worn really baggy bell bottoms and beads? Or boots and a hat? The only thing I could be sure of was to have more drinks, so I did that.
It was pretty fun and we got some dancing in, but I really missed the gentlemanly two-steppers I'm used to at the 'Hen. I realize this is technically a line dancing place, but still. The DJ for some reason made me think of the Skate King DJ from back in the day. Really cheesy, and a little creepy since he kept encouraging the girls riding the bull to show their boobs. A few of those twits actually did it, too.
I get the feeling they don't like out-of-towners here. That's not friendly. Vegas was created by tourists, oui? I was also not pleased when we told him it was my 30th birthday and he played "My Next Thirty Years". I hate that song! "Drink a few more lemonades and not so many beers"... are you kidding me? Not festive. How about some AC/DC, dude?
