I submitted approval paperwork to volunteer and was approved. Many friend on social media warned me against placing my efforts at the mission due to "big corporations/groups/groups" swooping in for PR reasons/meeting some quota and therefore lack of time/contact with those being served. I have a bachelor's degree in education, a master's degree in educational psychology, have been teacher of the year for the state of Nevada, desired to offer all these skills and more to the mission. I followed directions regarding how to submit dates. Nothing. I emailed again and even notified the contact person that you can count on me as a standing volunteer every Tuesday and Thursday. Nothing. I guess it's a great thing the mission needs no more volunteers, however someone needs to educate the staff that it's good practice to return an email to someone who is willing to be of service and perhaps you should be upfront that it's all about looking good with big business these days. I will take my service elsewhere.
