| - I took off work early to come here for a 80min deep tissue massage and aroma-facial, and I recommend you do the same and book your appointment off peak hours. Although it is a 3-floor spa institute, it really gets crowded - even on a Tuesday afternoon.
It's just an almost 3 stars because of the following:
1. The clientele is a little funny: you have hordes of tourists willing and wanting to spend on their vacation, the real bling bling housewives of toronto, and some bratty teenagers shopping with their daddy's amexes (and I know all of this for a Fact, because there is virtually no sound proof in this facility). Very chatty crowd - and only entertaining for 10 minutes.
2. It's expensive - not the most expensive in Toronto, but for the quality of treatment, it's a little outrageous. I recommend you browsing through their monthly specials before committing to a $500+ spa package.
3. It's dated. I love the water therapy/steam room that comes with the massage treatment, but the interior is very archaic. * I would have taken some photos, but it is strictly forbidden, as in most spas. The lobbies feel cramped because of the weird divide, despite the actual space they have. The carpets are showing their threads. The bathrooms have a funny chloride infused smell.
What I DO like:
1. My massage therapist Olivia was Good. real good. I am used to real massages that give me that oh-so-good pain the next day, and rejuvenate me for the rest of the month.
Olivia know what she is doing and could be both gentle and soothing, or good hardcore deep tissue. Thank you lady.
2. The swimming pool. Seriously, that was the most clean (albeit small) swimming pool I had experienced in Toronto. Of course, I don't belong to any "clubs", but I can tell from personal experience, that it is cleaner than other spa facilities with pool amenities.
3. It's clean and doesn't smell like incense everywhere. You know one of those spa facilities that just smell like....some herbal/floral/forest-y cave. Elmwood is just normal - and you get to experience the aromatherapy you pay for you are in the session.
I actually really like that.
I would say, go there once, and try it out for yourself when it's not crowded.
