| - On our first full day of a recent vacation to Phoenix (where my family went for spring break and stayed at the Arizona Grand resort), our toddler got sick. She and I spent the remaining 3 days in bed as the flu wracked her tiny body. On the day we were slated to travel home, it was questionable as to whether our toddler would be well enough to make the 5pm flight back and, of course, we had to vacate our hotel room at 11am and the last thing I wanted was to be homeless with a sick kid. I called around looking for a hotel near the airport that could guarantee us early check in so we could just go right there and crash while we waited to see if we might be able to make it home after all. I found Drury Inn and Suites via Kayak and the location and price point (roughly $200/night) seemed great. Even better that they offer suites which meant a bit more room for us all. Every single person we encountered at Drury was friendly and hospitable; both my husband and I noticed this. After a few hours, we decided our daughter was well enough to make the relatively brief flight home. I went down to the front desk at 3pm and said we were checking out (despite the very short stay) and explained our circumstances. The guy who checked us in was still there and said that he would be crediting me back a portion of our stay, that he just didn't feel right charging us a full night when we had been there a few hours. This was totally unexpected (believe me, at the time, spending $200 to be able to spend a quite few hours in a cool, private room with a sick kid was SO worth it) but very, very appreciated. I told him we had touched neither the bed nor the shower and hoped he could re-rent the room. He said it didn't matter, he was refunding me anyway. I got home and saw he credited me back slightly more than 1/2 of the initial charge. Talk about a class act. I highly recommend this place if you are in the Phoenix area and need a clean, hospitable place to stay. We didn't get to partake in all the freebies (breakfast, happy hour etc) but certainly enjoyed the wifi and the free airport shuttle!
