I was invited to Il Vinaio by a group of friends, and we ate there during an Octoberfest food/pairing event. We were not part of the event, however, and sat at a separate table.
About 50% of the food was adequate, the rest being poorly prepared, delivered cold, or overpriced. Here are my chief complaints:
1) $32 for a pitcher of ice and a touch of sangria. No thanks.
2) Overly cooked rice cannot be topped with melted cheese and sold as risotto.
3) Bread should not be harder than the table upon which it is placed.
4) Fondue is not cheese-flavored milk, and should be more viscous than a glass of water.
5) When a guest is dissatisfied with a $127 tab for slow service and underfilled pitchers, you should offer to comp something immediately.
6) If it is not your birthday when you sit down to dinner, it should not be your birthday when you get up to leave.
Our experience was positively awful. Eight of us shared this misery, and none of us will volunteer for this again. There are restaurants in town far more deserving of our money.
