  • Manifest is an extremely large store with a wide variety of media, but I was primarily there to shop for used music, so that's what I will focus on. First, the store was very clean and well organized, and I found the staff to be friendly. In fact, I received a "How's it going?" from one of the staff stocking vinyl in the used bin, and that might be a first in my 40+ years of record picking. That experience gave me some good vibes right away. I started in the new releases section, which consisted of about seven bins that contained a wide range of genres in mostly very good to hear mint condition, in other words, no junk. My tastes run to the obscure, and I quickly found some less common items such as Tucky Buzzard and a practically near mint Grimes L.P. They also had some discs that I would have probably bought at some point on a subsequent trip, like LeParc by Tangerine Dream. I spent a lot of time going through the regular used vinyl bins also, and found some interesting items there as well. For example, they had three 12" singles by Dalek I Love You, which is three more copies than I have ever seen anywhere else. The used bins are arranged by specific band name and also by letter, and they have a little bit of everything. I knocked off one star because the jazz section didn't really have a lot of variety and was mostly stocked with common 70's and 80's artists like David Sanborn and Keith Jarrett. The markdowns bin had some interesting things though, such as an LP by Italian prog / fusion band Nova. I spent about 3 hours in the used vinyl bins, but wished that I had also checked out the used CD section, which was quite extensive. I found the prices to be fair for the items that I purchased, and it looks like the store is good about marking down overpriced stock in order to keep a steady steam of new vinyl coming in. My shopping experience here was very positive, and I will definitely come back to Manifest the next time I am in Charlotte.
